Appalachian Autumn Market & Fall Festival
On Saturday, October 3, Hickory Ridge History Museum hosts the Appalachian Autumn Market & Fall Festival from 2–6 p.m. Admission is free.
The afternoon includes local makers, Appalachian music and storytelling, apple butter making, fresh-pressed cider, heritage crafts, living-history demonstrations, pumpkin painting, and activities for kids. Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk
The 49th Annual Woolly Worm Festival takes place October 17–18 at the Historic Banner Elk Elementary School grounds. Official hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday.
The famous woolly worm races are the main attraction, with Saturday’s winning caterpillar earning the honor of forecasting the High Country winter. The festival also includes craft and food vendors, live entertainment, and children’s activities. Official admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6–12, and free for children 5 and younger.
